Grammar notes (6)
다 가져가 = take it all
내 피, 땀, 눈물, 내 마지막 춤을 다 가져가, 가
다 (all) + 가져가 (take away). The repeated 가 is a rhythmic shout.
Pattern: 다 + [imperative]
Example: 다 먹어 (eat it all) / 다 말해 (tell me everything)
-게 하다 = make/let someone do
이건 나를 벌받게 할 주문
-게 하다 is causative: 'make me take the punishment.'
Pattern: [verb stem] + 게 하다
Example: 웃게 만들다 (make someone laugh) / 포기하게 하다 (make someone give up)
-아도 되다 = it's okay to
아파도 돼, 어서 날 조여줘
-아도 되다 = permission: 'it's fine even if it hurts.'
Pattern: [verb stem] + 아/어도 되다
Example: 늦어도 돼요? (is late okay?) / 사진 찍어도 돼요? (may I take a photo?)
-면서도 = even while knowing
알면서도 삼켜버린 독이 든 성배
-면서도 = contradictory simultaneity: knew, yet still drank.
Pattern: [verb stem] + 면서도
Example: 미안하면서도 또 늦었어 (sorry but late again) / 좋으면서도 왜 망설여? (you like them, why hesitate?)
너무 = too / so
너는 너무 달콤해, 너무 달콤
너무 was originally for negatives, but colloquially common with positives too: 너무 좋아.
Pattern: 너무 + [adjective]
Example: 너무 예뻐 (so pretty) / 너무 늦었어 (way too late)
so that ... can't
꽉 쥐고 날 흔들어줘, 내가 정신 못 차리게
-게 after a negative = 'to the point of not being able to.'
Pattern: 못 + [verb] + 게
Example: 잠 못 자게 (kept me awake) / 웃지 못하게 했어 (left me unable to laugh)
