Grammar notes (10)

-아/어지고: becoming... (change + and)

뜨거운 태양에 살짝 미친 난 쉽게 두 볼이 빨개지고

빨개지고 = 빨갛다 (red) + -아지다 (become) + -고 (and). -아/어지다 on an adjective expresses a change of state ("become..."), then -고 links to the next clause.

Pattern: Adjective stem + -아/어지다 + -고

Example: Nalssiga chuwojigo nuni wayo. (The weather gets cold and it snows.)

-ㄴ/는 듯: as if... (simile)

그러다 어질어질 달아오른 난 헤엄을 치듯 춤을 추고

치듯 = 치다 (to stroke/paddle) + -듯 (as if). -듯 attached to a verb expresses a simile ("as if doing that"), here describing dancing as if swimming.

Pattern: Verb stem + -듯

Example: Badae deureogan deut siwonhaeyo. (It's refreshing, as if I jumped into the sea.)

-고 싶다: want to...

음악을 더 크게 더 틀고 싶어 우리 사랑이 안 들리게

틀고 싶어 = 틀다 (to play) + -고 싶다 (want to) + -어 (casual ending). Verb + -고 싶다 expresses a wish — the most important pattern in the chorus.

Pattern: Verb stem + -고 싶다 (casual: 싶어)

Example: Naneun noraereul deudgo sipeoyo. (I want to listen to a song.)

-아/어도: even if... (concession)

안아도 더 가까이 붙고 싶어 닿은 심장이 팡 터지게

안아도 = 안다 (to hug) + -아도 (even if). A concession: "even though I already did X, I still want the next step."

Pattern: Verb stem + -아/어도

Example: Biga wado hakgyoe gayo. (Even if it rains, I go to school.)

-처럼: like... (simile)

저기 드러머처럼 내 마음을 두드려줘

드러머처럼 = 드러머 (drummer) + -처럼 (like). Noun + -처럼 makes a simile "like..." — the core pattern for "like someone/something".

Pattern: Noun + -처럼

Example: Neoneun byeolcheoreom bitna. (You shine like a star.)

어딜 = 어디를 contraction (where)

어딜 가도 여긴 Tropical night

어딜 = 어디 (where) + -를 (object particle), contracted. 가도 = 가다 (to go) + -아도 (even if). Together: "wherever I go." Korean speech often shortens particles.

Pattern: 어디 + 를 → 어딜; verb + -아/어도

Example: Eodil gado neoreul saenggakhae. (Wherever I go, I think of you.)

-ㄹ 수 없이: unable to...; unforgettably

잊을 수 없이 타오르는 밤

잊을 수 없이 = 잊다 (to forget) + -ㄹ 수 없이 (unable to...). "So I can't forget = unforgettably," an adverb modifying the next verb. A fixed negative pattern.

Pattern: Verb stem + -ㄹ 수 없이

Example: Iteul su eomneun yeoreumieosseoyo. (It was an unforgettable summer.)

-게: so that... (purpose/result)

사랑을 더 세게 더 주고 싶어 나의 계절이 느껴지게

느껴지게 = 느껴지다 (to be felt) + -게 (so that). -게 turns the verb into "so that [state] happens" — common for "let someone feel...".

Pattern: Verb stem + -게

Example: Dadeul deureul su itge keuge malhae jwo. (Speak loudly so everyone can hear.)

-(으)면: when / if...

달이 잠들고 여름이 다 식으면

식으면 = 식다 (to cool) + -으면 (when/if). A conditional "when...", here hinting at nostalgia once summer ends.

Pattern: Verb stem (+ -으면 after consonant / -면 after vowel)

Example: Yeoreumi kkeutnamyeon dasi bogo sipeul geoya. (When summer ends, I'll want to see you again.)

-았/었던: ...back then (recollection)

내게 불러줘 뜨거웠던 그때 노래를

뜨거웠던 = 뜨겁다 (hot) + -었던 (past recall modifier). -았/었던 modifies a noun with a nostalgic "back then" feeling — warmer than a plain past tense.

Pattern: Verb/adjective stem + -았/었던 + noun

Example: Uriga cheoeum mannassdeon nal. (The day we first met.)
