Grammar notes (12)
Question word 어디
어디? 어디?
어디 is the question word "where," used to ask about a place. Repeating it twice shows excitement or searching — the most earworm line before the chorus.
Pattern: 어디? = Where? (어디 + 에 + 가요 = Where are you going?)
Example: 어디에 가요? Where are you going?
-고 싶다 (want to) + -었던 (past modifier)
우리가 진짜 가고 싶었던 곳!
Verb + -고 싶다 means "want to ~." 싶었던 is the past adnominal form (-었던) of 싶다, modifying 곳 (place) — "the place we had wanted to go."
Pattern: [verb stem] + -고 싶다 / -고 싶었던 + [noun]
Example: 우리가 진짜 가고 싶었던 곳! The place we really wanted to go!
-는 modifier + 도 (even)
떨리는 지금도
떨리는 is the present adnominal form (-는) of 떨리다 (to tremble). 지금도 = 지금 (now) + 도 (even) = "even now." She’s saying she’s still nervous, trembling even now.
Pattern: [verb stem] + -는 + [noun] / [noun] + 도
Example: 떨리는 지금도 Even now, trembling
둘이 (the two of us) + 나란히 (side by side)
우리 둘이 나란히
둘 (two) + 이 (subject particle) = 둘이, "the two of us." 나란히 is an adverb meaning "side by side" — the sweetest image of the song.
Pattern: [number] + 이 (subject) = N people / 나란히 + [verb]
Example: 우리 둘이 나란히 걷자 Let’s walk side by side, the two of us
Ending -지? (confirmation)
보이지?
The ending -지 asks for confirmation ("right? you see?"), casual and friendly. The next line (봐) "look!" is an imperative — a playful call-and-response.
Pattern: [verb stem] + -지? = ~, right?
Example: 보이지? Can you see it?
내 (my) = contraction of 나 + 의
내 눈이
나 (I) + 의 (possessive) contracts to 내, "my." 눈이 = 눈 (eye) + 이 (subject particle). Next line: 갑자기 빛나지 = suddenly shine.
Pattern: 내 + [noun] = my ~
Example: 내 눈이 갑자기 빛나지 My eyes suddenly shine
Adverb 갑자기 (suddenly)
갑자기
갑자기 is an adverb meaning "suddenly," describing a fast change. Here: "(my eyes) suddenly light up" — the reaction of seeing someone you like.
Pattern: 갑자기 + [verb] = suddenly ~
Example: 갑자기 비가 와요 It suddenly rains
빛나다 (to shine) + -지
빛나지
빛나다 means "to shine." Adding -지 makes a casual confirmation: "(my eyes) shine, right?" Full: 내 눈이 갑자기 빛나지 = my eyes suddenly shine.
Pattern: [verb stem] + -지 = ~, right? (confirmation)
Example: 네 눈이 빛나지 Your eyes shine, right?
-보다도 (more than)
누구보다도
누구 (who) + 보다 (than) + 도 (even) = 누구보다도, "more than anyone." The 도 adds emphasis — stronger than plain 보다.
Pattern: [noun] + 보다도 = more than ~
Example: 누구보다도 너를 좋아해 I like you more than anyone
원래 (usually) + 잘하다 (good at)
나 원래 말도 잘하고
원래 = "originally/usually." 말도 잘하고 = 말 (talk) + 도 (also) + 잘하다 (good at) + -고 (listing) = "also good at talking." Next line: 그런데 왜 이런지 — she’s usually talkative, so why does she freeze around him?
Pattern: 원래 + [clause] = usually ~ / 잘하다 = to be good at
Example: 나 원래 말도 잘하고 I’m usually good at talking too
그런데 (but) + 왜 (why) + -ㄴ지
그런데 왜 이런지
그런데 = "but." 왜 = "why." 이런지 = 이렇다 (to be like this) + -ㄴ지 (question/exclamation) = "why am I like this" — a cute self-questioning about her own reaction.
Pattern: 그런데 + 왜 + [adjective stem] + -ㄴ지
Example: 그런데 왜 이런지 But why am I like this?
Imperative -아/어 (봐 = look!)
봐!
보다 (to see) + -아 contracts to 봐, the casual imperative "look!" In the lyric, (봐) answers 보이지? — "Can you see it? (Look!)"
Pattern: [verb stem] + -아/어 = imperative (casual)
Example: 이것 좀 봐! Look at this!
